The Peak in Hong Kong

Bank of China building tram to Victoria peak

mall on top of Victoria peak view from Victoria peak

Going to The Peak was a must do for me when I went to Hong Kong. The view was pretty but I was quite disappointed in how commercialize it is and what a tourist trap the place turned out to be. To get the best view, we have to pay extra to go to the very top of the mall in additional to the fare we paid for the tram that takes you up 45 degree angled mountain. The ride was short but the line to get on the tram to go back down was like an amazement park ride. Fancy expensive restaurants are strategically placed with the best view where the public viewing area is packed with tourists. It was not what I imagined it to be.

i think you need to hike up to the top. doing this will definitely pivot the experience for you in a hopefully positive way.

when you reach the summit … glorious and sweaty, you’ll walk among the other lazy, bait-taking, corpulent bags of tourist flesh knowing that your ascent to this location - and yours alone - was bereft of the ez-cheez slathered trappings that they so willingly engaged in. ha - suck it you line-waiting-tram-riders!
